About the Current Game

The 2008/2009 FTC competition is called Face-Off. The game is played by two "alliances" of two teams each on a 12’ square field, as shown below.

On the field, there are eight racks located on the surrounding walls. These racks contain eight hockey pucks each, which are used to score. In the center, there is a square raised wooden area. On the wooden area are two raised plastic areas - a circle and a triangle. The pucks are to be scored in these areas. In addition, three pucks are given to each alliance at the beginning of the match.

Pucks are worth 1 point if scored in the square, 3 points if scored in the circle, and 5 if scored in the triangle.

The game begins with a 30 second autonomous period, in which robots operate with a pre-set program, without user control. They can use sensors or dead reckoning to position themselves and score as many points as possible. The pucks scored in this period are worth double the points, and points are awarded for cleared puck racks. After Autonomous is over, the game moves immediately to a 2-minute remote controlled period.
